Princess daisy  BY D. M. Larson  From Freedrama.com

Int. Ballroom. Night.

Daisy is in a princess costume and enters down a decorated staircase to the grand ballroom.  Classical music plays and people are dancing.  Daisy's gaze is distant and off somewhere else but she looks happy.  A mystery man in a prince costume and mask appears.  She stops and looks excited but doesn't look directly at him.  The music swells dramatically as he approaches.  Suddenly he trips and falls.

INT. Daisy's bedroom. day.

We see Daisy's bedroom which is a children's bedroom with dozens of stuffed animals all around.  We see Daisy in her princess bed but she's not a child.  She is an adult.  She doesn't seem to like personal grooming.  Her hair is messy and she doesn't have any makeup on.  Her dad sits next to her reading a story.  She has a distant look in her eye as she listens.  She appears disconnected but not unhappy.

DAD

The princess entered the ballroom.  All eyes were on her as she entered.  No one could tell who she was behind the mask.  They all wondered who this beautiful woman was before them.  Suddenly the prince appeared.  He walked boldly toward her.  He wanted to know the name of this mysterious princess.  But before he could reach her, he tripped and fell on his face.

Daisy still stares at the same empty space as before but she pats the book firmly.  She still looks happy.

DAISY

Daddy.  No.

DAD

That's not what it says?

DAISY

Daddy. No.

DAD

I like that ending better.

DAISY

Daddy.

Dad laughs and Daisy throws the covers over her head.

DAD

I guess it's bedtime.

Daisy pokes her head out of the covers and points at the clock.

DAISY

Nine o'clock.

DAD

You're nearly 21.  I think maybe we can extend your bed time to 10pm if you want.

Daisy

Nine o'clock.

Dad

Okay, okay.  Good night, Princess.

Daisy settles in and closes her eyes and acts asleep.  Dad goes to the door and smiles sadly at her.  He turns off the light and goes.  After a moment, Daisy gets the book and a little battery powered light.  She puts a little light in front of the book next to her pillow and has the book open to a picture of a princess.  She happy snuggles against her pillow and bites her finger as she drifts off to sleep.

INT. Hallway. Day.

Doorbell rings and Daisy goes to the door.   She opens the door and it is a little girl named Emma.  Her brother Eddie is behind her.

EDDIE

Hey, Daisy.  Did we make it on time today?

DAISY

10am.

EDDIE

Have fun, Emma.  I will pick you up at noon.

DAISY

12pm.

EDDIE

I'll try not to be late.

DAISY

12pm.

EDDIE

Yes, Daisy.  I know.

Emma shuts screen door.

Emma and DAISY

Bye, bye, stinky boy.

Eddie grins and tries not to look annoyed (but he is).

EDDIE

That's funny every time you do that.

INT. Living room. Day.

Emma and Daisy are playing with princess legos and building castles.

EMMA

What do you want to be when you grow up, Daisy?

DAISY

A princess.

EMMA

I want to be an animal rescuer.

DAISY

Me too.  It's 11am!

Emma

Go Diego Go!

INT. TV ROOM. DAY.

Daisy turns on the TV and they watch Diego.

EXT. BACKYARD. DAY.

Emma and Daisy are in safari hats.  They are searching around in the back yard.  Daisy bites her fingers nervously.  **she slips into a vision with her as a princess on an adventure.

EMMA

Look!  It's an animal in trouble.

DAISY

Go Diego Go!

They save small dog who is tied up. Daisy jumps excitedly.

EMMA

It's a chihuahua.

DAISY

(tells facts about chihuahuas)

The Aztecs used the chihuahua in religious ceremonies and believed they were guides for the dead.

Eddie looks over the fence to the backyard.

EDDIE

Time to go, Emma.

DAISY

12:15!

EDDIE

I know, I know.  I'm late.

EMMA AND DAISY

Stinky boy!

Emma gives Daisy a hug. Dad comes outside.   Emma leaves out a fence with her brother, Eddie.

DAD

Did you have fun, Daisy?

DAISY

12:15.

DAD

Eddie was late again, huh?

DAISY

12pm, Dad.  12pm.

Daisy is biting her fingers.

DAD

Ready for some lunch?

DAISY

12pm.

DAD

Daisy, honey.  Not everyone can follow a schedule.

Daisy is upset.  She grabs at her hair.

DAISY

12pm.

DAD

Would you like a popsicle, honey?

Daisy starts to calm.

DAISY

Okay.

DAD

Good girl, Daisy.

INT. KITCHEN. DAY.

Daisy is eating a popsicle in the kitchen as something is cooking on the stove.  Dad is on the phone.

DAD

Daisy has been doing really well.  She was able to calm herself today...  Well... it did take a popsicle... Yes, we'll be at the meeting tonight.  Every Monday...

DAISY

6pm.

Dad hangs up and goes to check on the food.

DAD

You're doing really well, Daisy.  I'm proud of you.

Daisy rocks happily.

DAD (Cont.)

You used to be scared of the stove and here you are helping me.  Ready to put in the spaghetti?

Daisy gets the spaghetti box and then measures out the uncooked noodles and only uses the ones that are the same length.

DAD (Cont.)

It's all about finding ways to make it work.

EXT. parking lot sidewalk. Day.

Elmer is sitting on bench by a parking lot.  He has a notepad and is drawing.  His art is beautiful.  He is drawing a sexy princess.  A pencil suddenly doesn't meet his expectations.  He rocks unhappily as he sharpens it to perfection.  He returns to the art and presses too hard and damages the picture.  He angrily rips the picture from his book and tosses it to the ground.  A social worker, Terry, appears.

TERRY

Are you ready, Elmer?

Elmer angrily stuffs his things in his bag.  Terry goes to help but Elmer moves away and won't let Terry touch anything.  Elmer gets up but won't make eye contact.  He moves nervously waiting for direction.

Terry (Cont.)

This way.

Daisy and Dad appear on the sidewalk.  Daisy sees Elmer's discarded picture.  She picks it up.

DAISY

Princess.

DAD

It's nice.  I wonder if someone dropped it by accident.

DAISY

6pm.

DAD

We won't be late.

INT. MEETING ROOM.  DAY.

There is a classroom with a circle of chairs.  Elmer is in one chair working on a new drawing.  Carl is going around the circle trying to make sure each chair is perfectly spaced.  Daisy is sitting and when gets to her, she happily adjusts the chair to comply with his circle.

TERRY

Daisy is doing so well. You've done wonders.

DAD

I haven't done it alone.  You've been a big help.

TERRY

I'm hoping this group can do some good for others too.

Carl gets to Elmer and he won't move his chair.  Carl gets really agitated and rocks back and forth.  He walks away from the chair, makes upset sounds and sticks his fingers in his ears.  He calms and then returns. Elmer doesn't move. He walks away again, plugs his ears and hums.  Finally he returns.  He starts pulling at his nose and moaning louder.  Terry is about to step in when Daisy goes to Carl.  She moves the chair next to Elmer so it aligns to a new pattern.  She then moves another chair and tries to grab Carl.  He won't let her grab him but follows her to the chair.  Daisy fixes the other chairs to align to a new pattern to meet both Elmer and Carl's expectations.

TERRY (CONT.)

Amazing.  She's hired.

Dad smiles happily.

INT. MEETING ROOM.  Later in DAY.

It's now at the end of the meeting.

TERRY (CONT.)

Thank you everyone.  I hope to see you all back next Monday.

DAISY

6pm.

Carl immediately gets up and goes.  Elmer remains with his pictures.  He's getting a new pencil sharpened.  Daisy goes up to him with the princess picture.

DAISY

Princess.

ELMER

I hate it.

DAISY

It's... pretty.

ELMER

I hate it.

Elmer grabs it from her and stuffs it in a garbage can.  Then he quickly gathers his stuff and jams it into his bag.  Daisy steps back and bites her fingers and rocks.  Elmer loans making angry sounds.  Daisy goes to the garbage can.  She debates about getting it out but can't bring herself to pull it out.  She bends down and looks at it.

DAISY

Pretty.

INT. HALLWAY CLASSROOM BUILDING. DAY.

Elmer leans against the wall with his bag clutched to him.  He's shaking.  He runs himself into the wall and then crashes into the door at the end of the hall and exits.

EXT. BACKYARD.  DAY.

Daisy is dancing in the backyard to a song "Some day my prince will come."  She dances around a scarecrow that she put a crown on.  Eddie is watching her.  He rolls his eyes.  He starts to go and then he gets a nasty thought.  He sneaks up and takes the crown.  When Daisy dances up to the scarecrow Eddie jumps out.

EDDIE

Your prince is here.

Daisy is startled and faints.  Eddie freaks out.

Eddie (Cont.)

Oh, man. Daisy! You okay?  I'm sorry.  I didn't mean to frighten you.

Daisy wakes up with Eddy bent over her.  He looks like a handsome prince in her blurry vision.  She blinks and he's back to normal looking scared.

EDDIE (CONT.)

Daisy?

DAISY

Prince Eddy?

Emma pops her head over the wall.

EMMA

Eddie and Daisy sitting in a tree. K-I-S-S-I-N-G!

Eddie gets up embarrassed and annoyed.

EDDIE

Stop it or I'm telling Mom.

Eddie jams crown back on to scarecrow and leaves.  Daisy jumps happily and hugs the scarecrow.

INT. ELMER'S HOUSE. DAY.

Elmer is working on a drawing of a sexy princess and a mysterious prince.  He is eating a bowl of cereal as he draws.  His sister, Alice, is on the phone.

ALICE

I'm glad we finally know what is wrong with him.  Well... okay... not wrong... but do you think he can ever do as well as your daughter... Daisy is amazing... you discovered her... issues much younger though.  Is it possible...

Elmer spills some cereal and starts getting upset.  The milk gets on the paper and he destroys the picture.

Alice (Cont.)

I've got to go...

Alice goes to Elmer and tries to calm him down.  He gets violent and pushes everything off the table.  She gets knocked down.  Elmer sees this and slams himself into the wall over and over.  Alice tries to stop him.  She finally gets a handle on him and holds him as he rocks.

EXT. STREET CORNER. DAY.

Elmer is at a busy street corner. He goes up to the corner and is about to cross and then a car comes and he backs away.  He goes up and tries again.  But a car comes and he backs away.

Daisy walks out of a movie store with some princess movies clutched to herself happily.  Then she sees Elmer struggling to get across the street.  Daisy goes to him.

**cut to scene of Princess helping Prince battling monsters or jumping a river of lava (find crosswalk button and pushing it stops the monster)

Daisy pushes the crosswalk button. When it says "Walk," they walk.

**SCENE with Elmer and Alice coming to visit Dad and Daisy???  Eddie meets Elmer

INT. KITCHEN. DAY.

Daisy happily eats a popsicle with her dad.  The phone rings.  Daisy goes to get it.

DAISY

Hello.

She immediately hands it to her dad.

DAD

Hi... what?

Dad looks at Daisy worried.

DAD (CONT.)

I'll be there as soon as I can.

Dad hangs up the phone.  He reluctantly goes up to Daisy.  She finishes her popsicle.

DAISY

Beat you!

Dad smiles sadly.  Daisy gets worried and tries to be cheery.

DAisy (cont.)

Beat you.

DAD

Yes, you beat me.  The winner!

DAISY

(Laughs)

Beat you.

She bites her fingers knowing something is up.

DAD

Daisy.  I got a call from my sister.

DAISY

Aunt Maisy.  I'm Daisy.  She's Maisy.

DAD

Yes, Maisy needs me.  Mom... Grandma... is sick.

DAISY

Grandma.

DAD

You could come with me.

Daisy jumps up suddenly and freezes almost statue-like.

DAISY

Come?  Go?  No.

DAD

We haven't tried going anywhere in a long time.

DAISY

Go?  No.

DAD

You could stay.

DAISY

Stay?  Yes.

DAD

I don't have anyone to watch you.

The doorbell rings.

DAISY

10am.

They go to the door.

INT. HALLWAY. DAY.

Daisy opens the door and it is Eddie and Emma.

EDDIE

Have fun, Emma.  Be back at noon.

EMMA AND DAISY

Bye, bye, stinky boy.

Eddie mouths it along with them.  Emma and Daisy go to play.  Dad stops Eddie.

DAD

Hey, Eddie.  I need to ask you a favor.

EDDIE

Sure, man.  What's up?

DAD

It's a lot to ask... maybe I should ask your mom.

EDDIE

I may not be old like you, but I'm the man of the house since Mom kicked the old man out.

DAD

I need someone to keep an eye on Daisy for me for a few days.

EDDIE

What?

DAD

You don't need to stay here or anything.  She should be okay by herself.  She is really good about her routine.  She hardly needs me most days.

EDDIE

I'd love to help out, but... will she be okay with that?

DAD

I hope so.  I think it would be easier on her than taking her.  The last time I took her on a trip... it was... stressful for her.

EDDIE

Won't this be a little stressful too?

DAD

Yes... I'm hoping it won't be as bad.  And she seems to like you.

EDDIE

Me?  The stinky boy?

DAD

You guys practically grew up together.  You're like a brother to her.

EDDIE

I guess she's known me longer than most people.

DAD

I can pay you.  I wouldn't ask you to do this for nothing.

EDDIE

I wouldn't charge you much.

DAD

Thanks, Eddie.  This means a lot to us.

Eddie looks at Emma and Daisy playing.  He sighs.
